Sheep Go to Heaven Goats Go to Hell!

I spent this week in Strasbourg for work and I can't say it has been a particularly pleasant or easy week but the weekend is near and I really do have something to look forward to! This Sunday I am going to  see CAKE perform at the Crossing Border Festival in Antwerp. My love for CAKE began in my teens, I distinctly remember falling in love with their version of "I will survive" when watching a movie, probably the sensually deviant "Secretary" (I absolutely adore this movie and suggest watching it! For the perverse in us all and for the incredible performances and chemistry between James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal). I heart CAKE for their quirky, sarcastic lyrics, their sardonic humour, the ingenious themes they choose to address and their variety in musical styles and influences from a lovely waltz, a country ballad and a perfect pop song to hip hop and beatbox beats, folk and Marriachi music!
I was just checking out their website (http://cakemusic.com/index2.html) and I absolutely love it!

"If sub specie aeternitatis [from eternity's point of view] there is no reason to believe that anything matters, then *that* does not matter either, and we can approach our absurd lives with irony instead of heroism or despair." --Thomas Nagel

Quote from their homepage

They have a page with news that includes invaluable facts such as:

-Only 2% of adoptions in Japan are of children. The other 98% are of males in their twenties.

-Lightning strikes 6,000 times per minute on Earth.

-The Amazon Rainforest loses an area the size of Switzerland every year.

-Many well-educated people still mistakenly believe that heavier objects fall more quickly than lighter objects.

As well as a page where their adoring audience can ask the band for advice on life, love and trumpets, starting with the following important quote:

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened" --Dr. Seuss

And finally a CAKE forest where they encourgage beautiful people to plant trees and place photos on their map to show off their newly planted trees and to mark their tree's growth.

To be honest I haven't really listened to their latest album "Showroom of Compassion" but  I'm in it for the good old stuff and adore so many of their songs! My favourite CAKE album is "Prolonging the Magic" which was released in 1998, what a title, what a cover, what tunes!

Enjoy some of my favourite songs...
